Xinlong Yang holds an undergraduate degree from Taiyuan University of Technology (GPA: 91/100) and a Master's degree from Imperial College London, where he was supervised by Professor Bassam Izzuddin.
His research focuses on integrating physics into the next generation of structural design, modeling, and optimal control, which is inherently automated, optimization-based, and computationally intensive. This work spans several technical directions, including differentiable structural physics, physics-informed structural optimization, and graph-based learning—a natural paradigm for representing structural systems. For instance, he recently developed a structural solver designed for scalability and compatibility with graph-based learning, enabling fast and differentiable solutions to forward and inverse problems.
In the near term, he is working on embedding adaptive physics into structural design to respond to varied environments and manufacturing methods. Together with his colleagues, he aims to contribute foundational knowledge toward architectural and structural design that can harness the challenges and opportunities of the emerging AI era.
